Year 11 Rugby crowned champions at the Rugby County Cup!

We are pleased to announce that our Year 11 Boys Rugby team are named County Champions!

This is a massive feat for the boys, many of who have invested five years of Academy rugby, to end their school rugby career as the champions with a 71-29 victory.

It was an exciting match, and Mr Redman provided us with a superb run down of the game:

Bridgwater and Albion RFC hosted the eagerly anticipated Year 11 Rugby County Cup Final on Tuesday, with Churchill taking on Monkton Woods from Taunton.

Churchill found themselves 12-0 down after ten minutes and having to dig deep to stay in touch with a fired-up Monkton Park outfit. Every time they seemed to get their passing game going and a foothold in the game, Monkton would edge ahead again. Both teams traded scores as the first half came to a close to leave the game finely poised, with Monkton 29-26 ahead.

Churchill started the second half by taking the game to their opponents, scoring an early try, from which they never looked back. With ascendancy in the scrum and much-improved work at the breakdown, the platform was set for the fast-paced, 15-man rugby they like to play.

Monkton still looked for opportunities to attack through their dangerous backline but was tired as the half wore on, and Churchill stretched them out wide. The boys gradually built a lead and pulled away two quick tries and some clinical finishing. With the game safe and victory secured, three late tries were added to provide a gloss to the final score leaving Churchill in the lead by 71-29..

When the final whistle went, the boys celebrated a cup victory that was built on teamwork and determination, thanks to everyone playing their part. The eight different try scorers on the day were a testament to the squad's togetherness throughout the last five years at Churchill.

It's been a pleasure to watch them develop and mature during their time at the academy, and it's great to see them sign off by lifting the Somerset County Cup!

Big congratulations to Tom, Ollie, Ryan, Ollie, Milo, Albie, Ruben, Chase, Harry, Charlie, Freddie, Maddock, Francis, Will, Ben, Sam, Sam, Elijah, Olly and Brandon.
