Library Launches Bookbuzz Scheme for Year 7 and 8 Students
Our first delivery from Bookbuzz arrived this week, giving our students their first opportunity to delve into reading and select their books during their weekly Library lesson.
Run by the BookTrust, Bookbuzz is designed to spark a love for reading by offering students the chance to choose and keep a book from a curated selection of 16 titles. Each year, these books are handpicked by BookTrust experts, school librarians, and practising teachers to ensure inclusivity, text variety, and accessibility, including dyslexia-friendly options.
Through the scheme, students not only gain access to a wide range of engaging fiction and non-fiction titles but also benefit from a host of resources aimed at making reading fun and accessible during timetabled library sessions. In addition to fostering a love for books, the programme enriches the school library with extra copies of the selected titles.
Students should stay tuned for the upcoming Bookbuzz book review competition, which will include cinema vouchers and chocolate for prizes!
Along with the Bookbuzz scheme, the Library also runs a Sixth Form Book Buddies Scheme, where some of our Sixth Form students volunteer an hour a week to read with our Year 7 and 8 students who need extra reading support. This has proven to be an excellent scheme, making a fantastic difference.
