Churchill Academy & Sixth Form

Churchill Music Workshop with Clarinettist, Michael Collins

We were delighted and honoured to welcome clarinettist Michael Collins to Churchill Academy & Sixth Form today, who joined us to give a workshop to students.

Michael has served as the principal of the Philharmonia Orchestra and London Sinfonietta, performed widely as a soloist, and played on over 35 recordings. He has also served as the conductor of several orchestras and was the principal conductor of the City of London Sinfonia from 2010 to 2018.

Michael led a masterclass for our A Level, GCSE and woodwind players. Several students performed in the masterclass, receiving constructive comments and advice about their playing. Each performer was able to enhance their interpretations of the music performed and allow their own personality and flair as a performer to shine through.

Congratulations to Joey Clausen and Max Taylor, our masterclass performers, for their superb playing.

Michael completes his visit to Churchill performing the opening concert in this season of concerts organised by Churchill Music in St. John’s Church. Michael will be joined by Daniel King-Smith at the piano and they will perform a sumptuous programme in which works by Brahms, Debussy, Poulenc and Lutoslawski will be included.

Tickets: £15.50 Champions of Churchill Music; £19.50 Non-Champions; £1.00 U18’s and students in full time education.
