Music Technology
At A Level, students experience all three main music technology disciplines of recording, sequencing and producing. In addition, the course also offers composition. The course therefore builds upon the skills developed in NCFE Music Technology course. Listening work is based around the development of music technology and production techniques in Popular Music from 1930 to the present day.

| Topics & Areas Covered: |
Component 1 - Recording (20% of the course marks) The course will cover how to use production tools and techniques to capture, edit, process and mix an audio recording of a song by one of a choice of 10 artists set by the board each year. Component 2 - Technology‐based composition (20%) The course will develop your composition skills enabling you to create, edit, manipulate and structure sounds to produce a technology‐based composition to a brief. Component 3 - Listening and analysing – written examination (25%) The course will cover the history of recording and production techniques in the context of a series of unfamiliar recordings, from many different styles of Popular Music. Component 4 - Producing and analysing – written and practical examination (35%) You will use all of the skills you have developed from Components 1-3 and use them in an unfamiliar project setting in exam conditions, performing both practical tasks on a computer and answering theoretical questions on paper. |
