Psychology

Psychology offers students an opportunity to make sense of human behaviour. This course provides a general introduction to psychological theory, research and application, an awareness of the diversity and limitations of psychological knowledge and an understanding of the methods of psychology research. The course will provide students with valuable analytical skills, which will enable them to critically examine the evidence for and against an argument.

Year 13:

In addition to the Year 12 contents: 

  • Biopsychology (including brain scanning and sleep stages) & approaches in further depth 
  • Research methods in further detail (e.g. statistical analysis) 
  • Issues and debates (determinism, nature-nurture) 
  • Forensic psychology (offender profiling, explanations & treatment) 
  • Cognition & development (explanations & autism) 
  • Schizophrenia (explanations & treatments)
Career Pathways:

Apart from being a highly relevant course for those wishing to study Psychology and other related courses (Criminology, Forensics, Child Development) at degree level, this course is ideally suited to those students whose careers might involve dealing with people in either work or social situations such as management, selling, advertising, journalism, personnel, teaching, nursing, youth and social services
Additional Information:

The Core Maths programme is strongly recommended alongside this A-Level for students who would benefit from additional support with the Mathematical parts of the A-Level
AS/A-Level: This course can be studied as an AS Level in Year 12
